As producers you may wonder if you need to copyright or trademark your products, branding or logos. Here’s the good news: you already own any original work you create. Copyright and trademark exist to protect an artist’s original work and gives the artists authority to allow others to use or reproduce their work. Here are some resources.

The Made in Montana Tradeshow for Food and Gifts this March resulted in more sales for program members who exhibited at the show.
The Made in Montana program surveyed exhibitors about wholesale orders placed during the show. More than half of the exhibitors responded to the survey and reported more than $500,000 in orders from the event. This is a 60 percent increase in order value from the 2018 show.
Helena business Sage and Oats Trading Post and its owners, Major and Michelle Robinson, have been honored by their peers as the 2019 Made in Montana Retailer of the Year.
The 2019 Made in Montana Tradeshow is coming up on March 15 an 16! With that in mind, we wanted to share a few tips on how to excel in the retail space from last year’s winner of our Retailer of the Year award: Gwen Croghan of Chalet Market in Belgrade.
The charming chalet-style store was first opened in 1976 by a group of local ranchers who were looking for a way to locally sell their meat. Croghan bought the store in 2012, and carries on this tradition by sourcing her products locally, regionally and from across Montana – in addition to producing her own.
Croghan sat down with us to tell us what she looks for when sourcing product and how producers can increase their impact in the retail space.
