Brooks Woodworking produces fine hand crafted cutting boards and kitchen accessories. Our production methods have enabled us to begin filling bulk wholesale orders. We use industry standard hardwoods that are acknowledged as food safe. We hand pick all the lumber from local suppliers to seek out the most colorful and unique characters.
Many various steps of surfacing, cutting and sanding are used. Leading to the glue ups where we book match the wood's natural character to itself, with various species as the accents, creating a rough cutting board. This is the general assemble of our standard edge grain board. The more unique end grain boards take another round of this process; standing the grain direction up on its end. Doweling may be used in this style. Then to final sanding; oil finish is applied in muliptle coats, dried and into packaging.
In our standard cutting board we utilize edge grain construction. This is the best combination of price and durability. The wood fibers maintain a high quality of self sealing ability. Our chopping blocks use end grain construction. This is the strongest style and the highest self sealing ability of the wood. Our face gain boards are typical 1 to 3 peices of wood bringing out the beauty within a piece of wood. Our Cheese Slicers are hand crafted with imported hardware installed in house to the boards.
We use the strongest water based wood glue available and is food safe. Our oil finish is a special in house mixture of pure Tune oil, Linseed oil, we then melt in bees wax for an extremely water repellant finish. These have been used for centuries, long before petroleum based products and will not evaporate like mineral oiil and of course is totally food safe.
The primary woods are Walnut, Hickory, Brazilian Cherry, Purple Heart and Maple.
